Det där andra operativsystemet från Google

Google Chrome OS (eller Chromium OS) har fått en ny fönsterhanterare.

Chrome OS har fått en, ska vi säga, lite undanskymd position bakom monstret som är Android men tydligen fortsätter Google utveckla det - oklart varför. Jag känner ingen som har (eller ens övervägt) en Chromebook.

Är det nästa Wave eller nästa Android? Något måste hända så Chrome OS tar fart annars hamnar det på historiens skräphög innan vi ens uppmärksammade att det fanns.

Jag installerade den senaste betan av Mac OS X 10.7 Lion häromdagen.

Den nya looken ser fräsch ut men det var inte jättemycket nytt under solen direkt. Men en polerad Snöleopard är ju ganska fint det med.

Den nya Mission Control som tar över efter Expose tyckte jag iaf om. Den nya App-vyn, Launchpad, var lite småfånig dock, bra för nybörjare kanske?

Jag har inte kollat på serverdelarna ännu men jag ser verkligen fram emot Wiki Server 3, tvåan är ju fenomenal.

eCS 2.0 GA på VMware Fusion 3.1

Skapa en ny virtuell maskin med valet Other -> Other som operativsystem. När du bootar eCS 2.0 ISO 1 väljer du att boota till menyn med fler valmöjligheter. Väl där väljer du ACPI (Modern hardware) istället för förvalet (som i mitt fall var Virtual Hardware) och Panorama-drivrutinen för grafik.

Sen är det bara att boota och installera, nätverket upptäcks automagiskt och efter ett par omstarter har du en livs levande(!), färsk, ny, fantastisk eComStation 2.0-installation.

The Home & Student version can be used by any private or small
office user. As a private or small office user, you are allowed
to have up to 5 licenses installed for production usage. If you
need to install more than 5 licenses, you are required to purchase
the Business Edition.

The Server Edition is based on the Business Edition and adds the
IBM Warp Server for eBusiness components to offer a full
professional server environment for your business.

eCS 2.0 GA på väg ner

Tyvärr kommer jag inte hinna testa innan torsdag, jag ska iväg på facklig introduktionskurs i två dagar. Men gud vad roligt det ska bli på torsdag!

GA siktad.

eComStation 2.0 ska nu vara släppt. Jag har inte kunnat tanka ner den själv ännu men det är bara en fråga om tid, jag har redan licens.

Det känns... märkligt. När jag får den ska den iaf installeras pronto för att utröna vad som är nytt.

GA i sikte!

eComStation, det som är kvar av liket efter IBMs OS/2, ska släppas i en skarp 2.0-version (i IBM-termer kallas det för GA-version för Generally Available) under Warpstock Europe som går av stapeln 14-16:e Maj. Goda nyheter för mig som köpt en licens som sträcker sig till och med den versionen.

En annan glädjande nyhet är att 4OS2, ett kommandoskal för OS/2 som började sitt liv hos JP Software (som gör utmärkta produkter för Windows nu), numera är fritt och nya versioner utvecklas och släpps av Netlabs.

Jag såg i veckan att det ryktas om att IBM ska lansera OS/2 igen. Jag har inte sett något internt som tyder på det så det skulle förvåna mig mäkteliga. Mycket av teknologin i OS/2 var otroligt bra för sin tid och det är ju där problemet ligger, 10 år är en lång, lång tid för en produkt att stå still i IT-branschen.

Googles operativsystem är här

Iallafall om du vill kompilera det själv. Allt som körs "i" operativsystemet är webapplikationer. Google går klart rätt väg, de flesta skulle säkert klara sig bra med den funktionaliteten.



En skarp version ska komma sent 2010.

Gamla operativsystem dör aldrig.

Det finns fortfarande dem som använder såväl OS/2 som AmigaOS där ute. Faktiskt.

Thinkpad T400

Jag ska få en ny Thinkpad på jobb, en T400 för att ersätta min gamla mycket trötta T41:a.

Jag vet inte så mycket om T400 ännu, sedan PC-delen av IBMs business spanns loss till Lenovo har jag haft mindre och mindre koll på dem.

Men nu tänkte jag ta tag i det och googla fram lite information om vad man kan köra på den. Kan man rent av ha den som Hackintosh?


Den här recensionen såg kanske mindre lovande ut men den ska ju inte transporteras några längre sträckor misstänker jag (det har jag ju min Macbook Air till).

Efter sju svåra år

Releasen av eComStation 2.0 börjar nu faktiskt närma sig om man ska tro utvecklarna:
Almost all issues which have delayed the 2.0 GA have been resolved. Most of the remaining work is primarily resolving the issues with the installer and the integration of disparate components. The ACPI feature is now reaching a point that no longer should delay release, any longer. We do expect to continue to improve ACPI usability in the time after GA....

= eComStation 2.0 Silver Release =

This is anticipated to be the final Release Candidate, the Silver Release. While the last bugs are being ironed out, an initial test release will be provided to the Test Team asap and made available to Software Subscription Services customers a week after that.

= eComStation 2.0 GA Release =

The Silver Release will be feature complete. Only documentation and "fit and finish" items will be worked. The goal is to have the english version of eComStation 2.0 GA ready in August, 2009.

Något att göra efter midsommarfestandet lagt sig kanske?

Äntligen lite fräscht blod

HelenOS har nått 0.4.0 och beskrivs som ett modernt 32/64-bitars operativsystem med stöd för SMP och utrymme för forskning och experimentlusta.

IanOS har lägre ambitioner och är helt enkelt ett experimentellt 64-bitars OS.

De ska bli roliga att testa.

Moder Ryssland nästa?

Phantom OS har lite nya idéer om hur ett operativsystem ska bete sig.

SkyOS på ättestupan?

Det har inte hänt mycket med SkyOS (som är i beta) på länge, cirka 6 månader utan några uppdateringar har gjort användarna oroliga och nu i dagarna hade OSNews uppe en artikel om sakernas tillstånd som äntligen fick Robert, SkyOS skapare, att ta bladet från munnen.

Inte helt otippat har hans nyfödda en hel del med saken att göra men även virtualiseringsteknik som Robert tittar närmare på har gjort att SkyOS helt enkelt inte hamnat i fokus.

Det hade väl inte gjort något, om det nu inte vore så att folk betalar för att betatesta SkyOS.

Frågan är vad som händer nu? SkyOS har massor av roliga features redan men det är svårt att få det att boota vettigt på någon maskin tyvärr.

Ibland undrar man helt enkelt hur de orkar.

Ubuntu 9.04 bootar på 21.4 sekunder

En av nyheterna i kommande Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) är filsystemet EXT4.

En av nyheterna är förstås att filsystemet är snabbare än EXT3 och nu visar det sig alltså att tiden det tar att starta upp Ubuntu 9.04 minskar om man använder EXT4.

Det är naturligtvis viktigt att operativsystemet startar upp så snabbt som möjligt men jag tycker ändå att stabilitet är viktigare, jag startar i ärlgihetens namn inte om mina Ubuntusystem särskilt ofta:

RiscOS nu nästan gratis

RiscOS är ett ganska gammalt, döende operativsystem som egentligen bara var stort i hemlandet England. För att köra det har man varit tvungen att skaffa hutlöst dyr hårdvara, tills nu.

RiscOS Ltd. släpper nu en ROM-image man kan använda i emulatorer för bara 5£, från och med idag. Har du varit sugen på att testa RiscOS men tyckt att 600£ för en dator som tycktes småslö redan när den kom är lite mycket kanske det kan vara dags att investera lite pengar nu?

Om inte annat så kanske för att stilla nyfikenheten? :)
